About NOSTALGIA

Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive,
But to be young was very heaven!
~ William Wordsworth

Flashing back on the retro lanes of Hindi cinema makes me feel fresh. How I wish I was this old then!
The seeds of interest in Good Old Bollywood were planted in me way back then, by my “Bapa” (as we fondly called my father) who wasn’t just a great movie buff, but also had keen interest in music, dance, theatre and the like. However when the seeds are watered at will and manured matching one’s moods, don’t they sprout at their whims n fancies? As you sow, so they reap. So it was, in my case.

FF>>>: Not till I met Sir Sheshadri Mokshagundam, a father figure to me. The seeds in me started showing signs of sprouting, smiley curls started springing, swaying to the scores of star studded stories shared by Sir.

Taking us back to periods of the past on a free jolly ride into the woods, only of Bolly, meandering us through a plenty many memorable moments of a myriad monochromatic movies and more, is precisely what Sheshadri Sir and team have been doing for the past 5 years, to engage and entertain the Senior Citizens at Dignity Foundation, Bangalore through their programme called “Nostalgia” and also, “Sur Sangeeth” programme being held for the past one year at BSK 2nd stage, B’lore (hosted by Shri Madan Baldota).

Truly a “Total Recall” through these programmes.

As a Master of these Ceremonies, Sheshadri Sir shares with the audience, his knowledge about “The Golden Era of Hindi Cinema” in general and a host of interesting information about stars and stalwarts belonging to Bollywood of yore, in particular. An avid movie buff, he has acquired this repertoire of knowledge through decades of watching Hindi movies, listening to those songs (n singing them too), reading and researching a beeline of books about veteran actors, directors, music composers, singers et al. not to forget his “close to fifty years collection of newspaper and magazine clippings” about his Bollywood favourites. Sheshadri Sir also curated an Exhibition of “Lata – a flashback” in 2014 wherein he had exhibited his 40+ years collection of newspaper and magazine clippings about Lata Mangeshkar. Thank you Sir, for bestowing me the honour of doing “Alilu Seva” that day, punching n pinning those powerful clippings on the board. What a delight it was, taking me back to those college days of Architecture!

Inspiration from these programmes is what led me to the creation of this section "Nostalgia” sharing with my blog readers, reviews of Bollywood Songs of yesteryears – “As I view it”.

  1. Mangala,
You may recollect that we always referred to you as APPLE (A-Architect, P-Poet, P-Painter, L- Leader,
E- Enterpreneur ) .You have proved this in every aspect. The poems reflect your sentiments effectively and in style. Your 'recipes' list is growing really fast. You have succeeded in building your team in a nice way. Your coverage of old film songs rekindles our interest in listening to the mesmerising tunes. Your 'Cryptic Clues' and 'Play with words' make good brain tonic. From a coverage in Deccan Herald, you WILL make it to a larger coverage in National and International media. WE ARE PROUD OF YOU. We look forward to seeing more writings from you on varied subjects. Wish you all the best.
