Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko (Duet)

This is one of 6 songs from the 1973 action – drama film “Yaadon ki Baarat” - a classic story of revenge, good  vs. evil, yet a fun and entertaining film which became a box office hit of that year. A film remembered more for R D Burman’s music. Star cast included Dharmendra, Neetu Singh, Vijay Arora, Zeenat Aman and Tariq. (child artiste version of Tariq was played by Aamir Khan)
A beautiful and melodious romantic song picturized on Zeenat Aman and Vijay Arora adorned in
contemporary contrasting costumes of black and white in a period setting. The song starts with the sound of spoon tapping on glass (RDB’s innovative method of recording new sounds). The song (based on Raga Pilu) is rendered beautifully by M Rafi and Lata M. The  first stanza exactly matches that of “If it’s Tuesday”.
Vijay Arora, one of the 3 brothers who get separated from each other during childhood (roles of the other 2 brothers were essayed by Dharmendra and Tariq) is adopted by a wealthy man. Vijay grows up to be a handsome, dashing, debonair young man.

Love is an incredibly beautiful emotion which can be experienced by any but not enjoyed by many. It is only when the feeling is mutual that the enjoyment is exponential. Sadly, at this particular moment in the film, Vijay ends up falling in love, thinking he has “trapped” the wealthy man’s daughter (Zeenat Aman) in his love while Zeenat Aman on the other hand only “pretends” to be in love with Vijay. This is just the beginning of a series of pranks played by both. Their love however blossoms as the movie progresses proving, like many popular old movies that “Romance Never Dies. It lives on forever.”

  1. Mangala,
I had not been able to see mails/blogs for some time due to system snags at my end. Today I went through all of these.
I virtually relived the good old times.
You have beautifully and effectively blended the story, lyric, music, sentiment aspects. Hearty Congratulations. Look forward to more of these in the coming days.
    God bless you.
